Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Author Studies are quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to engage my little lions in reading and writing.

Today we spent a bit of time engaged in shared writing about what we know about Dr. Seuss and his   books. It was so nice to see them excited to share what they knew and talk about an author they were familiar with. Often when I first introduce an author on my most avid readers have information to share. My plan was to read the Cat in the Hat as a simple refresher but very excited little lion persuaded me to reading Happy Birthday to You by Dr. Seuss since it was his birthday and had "such good examples of silly creatures." After watching a Scholastic Video about Theodor Geisel we moved onto reading centers.

During reading centers we worked on finding facts within in non fiction passages with differentiated biographies of Dr. Seuss. And many little lions enjoyed independently reading Dr. Seuss books.
